The NCT Bednest is a bedside crib which creates a safe sleep space for your baby that is at the same time joined to, but separate from, your own bed.
This innovative bedside crib which has been selected to carry the NCT brand allows you to sleep in the same room as your baby, with him or her at your bedside and gives you all the advantages of co-sleeping without actually sharing a bed.
Benefits of Bedside Sleeping for you and your baby:
Sleeping alongside your baby in the same room can help you and your baby get more rest
The NCT Bednest supports breastfeeding at night and the position of the crib means it can be done without having to get out of bed
Sleeping close by helps to develop bonding between mother, father and baby
If your baby stirs or cries during the night you can easily settle them back to sleep
The positioning of the Bednest means you can comfort your baby easily even if your movements are restricted, for example following a caesarean
How does the NCT Bednest work?
When positioned next to your bed, the Bednest functions as a three-sided bassinette enabling you to keep your baby within reach and on the same level as your bed.
The fully adjustable base of the cot is secured to your bed with a strap which works with frame and divan beds of varying heights. The patented fabric sides can be lowered to different levels, fully down to provide easy access or halfway to keep eye contact. The halfway setting can also be used as protection for when your baby starts to roll over at around three months.
Away from your bedside, the NCT Bednest functions as a standalone crib, moses basket and travel cot. It can be packed away into a convenient carry bag in less than two minutes, allowing your baby to sleep in the bed he or she is familiar with wherever you are.
Safety:
Made using natural, sustainable materials, the NCT Bednest has been tested and approved by FIRA to British Standards F1130-1 and 2.
Award Winning:
The NCT Bednest recently won the coveted Mother & Baby magazine Gold Award for Best Moses basket or Crib 2010/11

So pleased with this item - really innovative, clever design. Maybe not the prettiest thing but actually looks fine now its in the bedroom. Unlike other reviewers, I found that the foam mattress it came with did fit perfectly, although did buy a coir little green sheep one anyway. The carry bag is not very strong and ripped during its first outing in the car, however NCT did replace it and were very prompt in sorting.

Excellent baby bed - perfect alternative to co-sleeping!

We decided to fork out for the bed nest for our second baby, after co-sleeping with my little boy, as he still comes into our bed in the middle of the night - most nights.
We took the advice of previous reviewers and bought the option without mattress or carry bag buying the Little Green Sheep Co mattress instead and my daughter just loves the bed and sleeps really well in it.
There is also the option to tilt the bed which we are using to help with reflux.
A great buy and worth the money - I would definitely recommend!

Great bednest not matched by mattress and sheets

Bednest itself amazing. Finally allowed me to sleep as our little man wouldnt sleep in his Moses basket. Put a pillow over the slat folded down onbed to cushion against the wooden rod. Dont buy the sheets they are completely not fit for purpose as is the mattress that is shipped as there is a 5cm gap which goes against which guidelines, but they say its for ventilation!
Great product design let down by sheets and mattress however transformed sleeping in our household so totally recommend.

Best baby buy!

I have used this cot with both my daughters and we have been delighted. Even for babyes with severe reflux is great as you can tilt it as much or little as you want. Matress also very confy. Great buy.

Dont bother with mattress, sheets or carry bag

Whilst a great piece of kit itself, the Bednest mattress and sheets are worse than awful. Not only is the mattress a bit chemical and rubbish but, unforgivebly, with the fitted sheet on the mattress, it comes up short in length to about 4-5cm. Not exactly the snug fit recommended by the NCT itself or even the NHS. This may even be a danger. So whilst I highly recommend the Bednest, save yourself £50 and get the mattress and sheet from another manufacturer. As for the flimsy carry bag - I wont even go there...

Perfect bedside crib
Date Posted: 06/10/2012
We have been using this bedside crib since our bub was born, he is now 3 months, and I couldnt recommend it more highly. It is easy to set up and we have used it for travelling although it is much heavier than a travel cot would be. It is the only bedside crib I could find that attached securely to our bed but we have actually stopped using the attachment as our getting in and out of the bed was rocking the crib. The fact that it easily adjusts to lie on an angle is great if you have a refluxy baby and want to prop him up. The option to have the side completely down or half down is good too. The sheets it came with were average so I bought Green Sheep set. I love having baby so close to me at night but not in the bed. It is also an attractive crib and looks neat in our bedroom.
Not quite as wonderful as expected

I was so excited to receive the Bednest and immediately loved it, it was so easy to put together and looked really beautiful... It really does have lots of good points as other reviewers have discussed, but it wasnt quite as wonderful as I expected so I will just explain why. Space is at a premium in our bed as our 21 month old daughter shares our bed too. So when I folded down the side of the bednest and realised the part that folds down has a big wooden rod inside I was very disappointed - when folded down and resting on the bed it is very very uncomfortable if you happen to lie on it, and means that when I bring my son into our bed to feed next to me we are all even more squashed as I could not lay him near the wooden rod so have to move further into the middle of the bed. Many people have described how easy it is to slide their baby across to feed but again I have not found this to be the case due to the wooden rod - I thought I could stay lying down and just gently slide my little man over but I have to sit up each time and then carefully position him away from the bednest side. Maybe I am doing something wrong? The other huge niggle I have is the sheets that I bought with the bednest. After one wash they did not fit the mattress properly and now whenever I use them they force the mattress to curl up at the ends as they are so ridiculously tight. I strongly recommend not buying the sheets! I have ended up using flat crib sheets too, they do not fit neatly but at least they dont curl the mattress up. ...Those are my issues with the bednest, but it doesnt change the fact that it is overall a beautiful piece of furniture, a lovely way to sleep close to your baby and easy to move around your home so baby is always comfortable sleeping. I just wish I had known about these problems before I bought it.

One of our best baby buys.

We loved this bednest. It was brilliant. Not having to get out of bed to feed my baby when I was sore from stitches was a godsend. It is very well made, and engineered and easy to use. It is also easy to wash although the instruction book could have made it clearer that you can wash the side meshing in the washing machine. It took me ages to work out how to get it off. I lent it to a friend who had a C-section, but only about 3 weeks after she had had it, she wished she had had one from the start. It is so well made that I am sure it will last for many children and will have a good resale value.
Best baby buy!

Ok, its expensive but I really do think its worth the money. With baby no. 1, we tried various "first beds" - moses basket - too small and flimsy, Amby Baby Hammock -she didnt like it, carrycot from pram - she slept well but it wasnt recommended for long-term use, and so by 4 months, we gave up and reluctantly transferred her to a big cot in her own room. This time round, I thought we would give the BedNest a try - wish wed tried it the first time round! I love having my baby so close to me. He sleeps well and its easy to breastfeed during the night as you dont have to get up at all - essential for a winter baby when its chilly!. The Bed Nest is very large compared to alternatives. My son is 5 months, on the 50th centile for length and still has plenty of room - it will easily last him until 6 months. The fact that you can safely have one end higher than the other has been very handy as our son suffers with reflux and having his head higher helps relieve the symptoms slightly. It would also be good for a baby with a cold.
When we went away, it was easy to take with us as it packs very flat and you can even leave the sheets etc in place so you really are ready to go when you get to your destination. Its very heavy though and not well protected in the supplied carry-bag so wouldnt suit flying or train travel very well.
I bought an organic mattress from Little Green Sheep to go with this as I felt the one supplied was a bit thin and flimsy. I also bought our sheets and a mattress protector from Little Green Sheep and these are great quality.

Great crib

Love this crib, our little one has slept great in it and I love being able to watch him sleep laying next to him. Its also been a really useful travel cot, albeit a bit clunky to pack. However, the sheets that come with it are very poor quality, piling every time they were washed, after a dozen washes we gave up on them and bought some crib flat sheets instead. Also the mattress went mouldy very quickly so may be worth buying a different mattress too.

Very comfortable for baby

We bought this for our son not from NCT though as it was currently out of stock and added a different organic mattress from Little Green Sheep as they do a high quality matress to fit the bed nest.
As someone else said, it seems to reduce night time crying as your baby knows you are close by and when he wakes and needs a feed I wake as he starts to stir, so no need for him to cry.
Initially he hated it as he found it very exposed after the moses basket we had him in first. However after about 4 weeks he adored it and slept through 6 hrs at a stretch from being 6 weeks.
Would strongly recommend for the following reasons:
- high degree of comfort for baby
- reassuring for new parents as you can see baby breathing and sleeping soundly right by you
- great for breastfeeding as you can just lift baby across to you at the same level
- very sturdy and safe

Fantastic product

I bought this when my daughter was a few days old, having undergone an emergency cs. It is a fantastic product, which makes breastfeeding throughout the night easy. The baby is only inches away and you can see, hear and touch her without having to get out of bed, or fully wake up. Being comforted by our close presence, our baby slept well from a few weeks old and hardly ever cried during the night- to signal hunger she simply wriggled around a bit and looked up expectantly. Unlike bedsharing, there is no risk of the baby falling out or being suffocated. We used this product for our baby until she was 5 months old, when she outgrew it and happily transitioned into a cot. The design is stylish, and practical as it is easy to clean and folds down into a small package for travel or storage. Very highly recommended!

Only one little draw back for me
Date Posted: 30/07/2011
This is a great idea, and I do love it. The problem for us has been that from day 1 our baby is very mobile, and managed to get himself out of the bednest in to our bed, so we have to put the side half way up. Now, he shuffles right up to the side as if he is trying to get to me. 1 good thing for us is that we have been able to slant the cot well as our baby has reflux.
I also dont think our baby will be able to stay in it anywhere near up to 6 months. More like 4 I reckon.

A great buy

We originally had our baby in a moses basket in our bedroom. However, we had to get up if we wanted to check on her, which was frequently at first !!, as you can not see into a moses basket. I had also had an emergency casearan so getting in and out of bed, to start with was difficult.
We bought the bednest as soon as it was available, our daughter was by then about 6 weeks old.
The bednest is a very good design, our daughter has bad reflux, but the base on the bednest allowed us to raise the head of the cot so that she was less likely to bring her feed up. it assembles very easily and we have taken it away on a number of occasions and used it at relatives homes it folds fairly flat so is easy to transport - one gripe the handle of the bag it folds into is not good for carrying the weight of the bed and makes your hand hurt when carrying it and she sleeps easily, as this is the bed she is used to. The sides drop down easily and so it is easy to calm her if she wakes in the night. I also think she goes back off to sleep if she wakes, because she is reassured that she can see us. All in all, we think the design of this bed is great and would recommend it to others.
